The Allegory Advisory mission is to provide tailored investment planning and management services that enable clients to achieve their financial goals. My aim is to help clients become the author of their own financial story, as I have mine.
During the course of my business career, I had numerous opportunities to observe the mental hurdles we, as humans, face in confronting the risks inherent in financial decision-making. The Financial Crisis of 2008 laid bare those challenges for all to see. As the Financial Crisis evolved into the Great Recession, I joined millions of other Americans facing employment change. This humbling experience motivated me to re-tool and re-direct my skills and experience; only, with a focus on financial decisions made at the personal rather than business level.
I signed-on as a representative of Garrett Investment Advisors LLC, a fee-only SEC registered firm, which supervised and supported my work through December, 2014. As President of my own registered investment advisory firm, Allegory Advisory LLC (as of February, 2015), I continue to serve clients as a fiduciary, putting the client’s interests first. As I take no commissions, I remain a fee-only advisor. This fee-only approach reduces to a practical minimum the conflicts of interests inherent in the provision of financial advice.
As a means of sharing my experience in applying professional financial risk management techniques to my own financial decisions, I began writing e-letters to some family, friends, former colleagues, and fellow fee-only financial advisors. With their encouragement and support, the Allegory Advisory Notebook was born.
Please consider the approach outlined in my commentary, the service line descriptions, and the getting started page. Should you be interested in learning more about Allegory, I would be delighted to hear from you.
In the meantime, I dedicate this site to the memory of the essayist, playwright, and former president of the Czech Republic, Václav Havel, who, in a 1990 speech to the U.S. Congress, said best what the world needs now:
“[T]he salvation of this human world lies nowhere else than in the human heart, in the human power to reflect, in human humbleness, and in human responsibility.”
(“Democracy and the Human Heart:Václav Havel, 1936-2011” by Paul Berman, The New Republic, February 16, 2012, p. 24.)
